Dear President Biden
It is shocking that more than a year and a half on from the attempted coup in Burma, and six months on from the EU imposing sanctions on Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise, you have taken the decision to do nothing to stop American companies and companies from other countries funding the Burmese military via gas revenues.
For decades the Burmese military have been committing violations of international law, including war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
Since the attempted military coup, the Burmese military now receive the revenue from gas sales. This has helped them fund the brutal human rights violations committed since the coup, including killing more than 2,000 people, forcing almost a million to flee their homes, and arresting more than 10,000 people.
These are human rights violations funded by American companies because of your refusal to impose gas revenue sanctions.
Please act now to end American complicity in violations of international law in Burma.
