The recent US and UK aid cuts announced will kill people and will weaken the resistance. That is why Burmese military social media accounts are gloating about the aid cuts. At the same time, the pace of new sanctions has slowed to a trickle. With so many crises around the world Burma has fallen down the priority list.
We need to campaign to protect aid to Burma. We need to campaign for more sanctions. In Parliament lots of supportive MPs retired or lost their seats, and we need to rebuild our support in Parliament to pressure the British government. Simply put, we need to do much more, but we don’t have enough staff to do this work.
At this critical time, we are asking you to donate towards the salary for a new staff member. Someone who can boost our capacity to campaign on these vital issues, to protect Burma from aid cuts, and to get the British government to impose new sanctions which will have a bigger impact on revenue and arms going to the Burmese military.
