Please take action to free Lum Zawng and Zau Jat.
On 7 December 2018, three Kachin activists, Nang Pu, Lum Zawng and Zau Jat were sentenced to six months in prison and 500,000 Kyat (£250) fine each in Kachin State, Northern Burma. Their crime? They organised peaceful protests during the spring of 2018 in support of villagers trapped in the jungle, after the Burmese army had attacked their villages.
On 5 April 2019, Nang Pu was released from prison two months early. This is great news but Lum Zawng and Zau Jat remain in jail.
Aung San Suu Kyi and Burma’s President Win Myint have the power to release them, through a presidential pardon, together with all remaining political prisoners in Burma, and the NLD has the majority in Parliament to repeal all repressive laws in Burma.
Please write to Aung San Suu Kyi and ask her to release Lum Zawng and Zau Jat, and to repeal all repressive laws in Burma.
